NBA Commentary

The fact that this didn't happen at a Wizards game may be the best indication yet that there's a New Era at the MCI center: Game delayed by dog's doings

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Who didn't let the dog out?

A stink was raised during halftime of the Detroit Pistons-Orlando Magic NBA game on Tuesday night when the start of the second half was delayed by three minutes after a seeing-eye dog relieved itself on the court.

The dog was with a charity organization, Canine Companions for Independence, that was receiving a $10,000 donation from the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation.

When the Pistons came out for warmups, Rasheed Wallace walked up to the lane where the excrement had fallen, stopped and stared in disbelief. His teammates were just as confused before wide smiles broke out.

A custodian was enlisted to scoop up the mess and wipe up the remains with cleaner, a mop and towels.

The highlight of last year's Wizards season was when a man proposed to his girlfriend at halftime on the court, and she said "No" and ran away in tears.

NBA Game Ends in Near Riot
I happened to click over to the end of the Pistons-Pacers game just as Ben Wallace started going at Ron Artest. A couple of minutes later, Ron Artest launched himself into the stands after a fan, and then all hell broke loose. We'll be seeing this footage Zaprudered endlessly over the next week or so.

The game was called with 45 seconds left on the clock.

The ESPN Heads seemed to primarily blame the fans, implying (or stating outright) that Artest's actions were a reasonable reaction to a fan throwing a beer at him. I've got to disagree. Artest absolutely escalated the situation (as did Stephen Jackson) and should get a massive suspension. Throwing a beer and throwing a punch are not proportional actions. Not when the one throwing the punch is a 250 lb. professional athlete.

Somewhere there's an ABC executive down on his knees thanking God that Sportstalk Radio finally has something to talk about other than the Desperate Housewives promo.

Update:

Brendan Loy has a thorough roundup of news and reaction.

The TICK Endorses George W. Bush for President

Now, normally, I stay out of politics. Politics involves a lot of thinking and talking, and things that aren't either Good or Evil, and don't respond well to a Mighty Application of Physical Force. But this year is different.

The TICK

Ya see, back about three years ago, America's alarm clock went off, and told us it was Time to Fight Evil. Now, this wasn't the first time it had rung, but before, America hit the Snooze Bar of Ignorance, or we stuck our heads under the Pillow of Apathy. But President Bush jumped in the shower, and ran out to fight Evil without even making a pot of coffee.

He knew that when Evil knocks on your door, you don't invite it in for tea. That'll just get your apartment all messy and probably smelling like feet. No, you slam the door in its face, then you follow it home and try to knock some sense into it, and let its apartment smell like feet. It probably did before you got there, anyway.

And while you're pummeling Evil, you keep pummeling, until it gives up and decides that it has better things to do than Be Evil. Because it knows where you live, and it could come knocking any day now. And you just cleaned your living room and you don't even like tea.

So vote for President Bush, and keep the Rug of Freedom vaccumed, and the knick-knack shelves of Liberty well-dusted.

Update:

N.Z. Bear has posted the Heroes for Bush Blogburst roundup.

Meryl Yourish has a post about the Palestinian Student Movement's conference and the display of a bus destroyed by a suicide bomber.

She adds her usual pointed commentary, of course.

Check back here over the next few days for links and commentary on the conference.
